Boaters' Bash Draws Record Numbers; Final Numbers Not Yet In
Tuesday, August 10, 2010
They say fine wine gets better with age. Well, wine is not the only thing that gets better as it gets older. The Rockin’ the River Boaters’ Bash for Charity just wrapped up its third year and already the event is a smash hit.
Although the event was headlined by Sean West and the Poets and Pirates, a Kenny Chesney tribute band, many would have thought that Kenny himself was playing there by the number of boats that were in attendance at the North Shore Riverfront Park. Over 120 boats registered for the event and an estimated 20 more packed “the wall” in support of this worth while event.
In addition to the music of Sean West, participants were also treated to an opening set by The Vagrants, a Chinese Auction with donated items that fit every taste, a cornhole tournament, and a top notch catered dinner. New cars and trucks were also on display from Century 3 Chevrolet, Century 3 Kia, Monroeville Kia/Mazda, and Monroeville Dodge. For those that wanted to see the latest technology in boating, Fox Chapel Marine had a Sea Ray 310 Sundancer in the water for all to view and demo.
Although the final numbers are not yet available, the organizers are optimistic that this year’s event was successful in raising money for the Greater Pittsburgh Masonic 32º Children’s Learning Center for children with Dyslexia.
The event organizers would like to thank all of the businesses and individuals that made the event possible. Please contact these businesses and thank them for their participation in this event: Fox Chapel Marine, Century 3 Chevrolet, Century 3 Kia, Monroeville Kia/Mazda, Monroeville Dodge, Newport Marina, BoatPittsburgh.com, Coffey Contracting, Froggy Radio, Baja Bar and Grill, Team Nutz and Steel City Pack Leader. One last special thanks goes out to Jay and Lisa Schaffner for letting their paddle wheeler, the Winnie May, be the centerpiece of the Boaters’ Bash.
