2010 Kiski Float Well Worth the Trip
Monday, August 02, 2010
The boating Gods once again smiled on everyone that turned out for the 2010 BoatPittsburgh.com Kiski River Float Trip. The weather was perfect, the water was just right and good times were had by all that attended.
Friday night about 25 boats anchored off on the Kiski River as far up as the water depth would allow and then everyone settled in for an evening of pre-float trip partying. Once morning rolled around several more boats joined in and the water shuttles began taking the participants and tubes to shore where a bus was waiting to take them to the launch site about 4 miles up river.
At the launch site the tubes were blown up while a picnic lunch was enjoyed by all. At roughly 1:30, seventy-four people jumped on a variety of tubes, rafts, and other floating objects for the journey down river. Although we had a few minor hiccups along the way, the trip was relatively smooth and everyone had a blast.
Once the rafts arrived back at the anchored boats, some people cooked up dinner on their boats while most enjoyed food provided by Hellbenders, a local “BBQ Barge” that sells barbeque ribs, chicken, pulled pork, and hot dogs along with surprisingly good pizza. The giant Hellbender pontoon boat churned out order after order of great food until they almost ran out of everything.
The following morning after breakfast everyone began to pull up anchor and head back to their respective home ports.
BoatPittsburgh.com would like to specifically thank several people that made the event possible. First and foremost LJ Fraysier of the Oakmont Yacht Club made the event happen. The float trip would not have gone off with out his organization. We would also like to thank Aaron Mock of Pittsburgh Watercraft Performance and Don Stone of P&L Boats among a few others were instrumental in shuttling people to shore Saturday morning. A special thanks goes out to the Bowser family for allowing us to use their camp site and docks for getting people to shore and to the bus stop. Lastly, BoatPittsburgh.com would like to thank everyone that participated and or helped out in making this event one of the highlights of summer.
