Labor Day Weekend Preview
Wednesday, August 27, 2008
Labor Day weekend is traditionally the end of the boating season for many boaters. Many feel it is time to start thinking about winterization and storage. Not so fast! Before you start to think about the end of the season, be sure to enjoy the last official boating holiday of the summer!
For those near downtown Pittsburgh, celebrate the start of the football season at the Annual Coors Light Kickoff and Rib Festival August 28th through September 1st at Heinz Field featuring national rib vendors, Free Concerts, Football and Fun.
On Thursday August 28, don’t miss the final preseason game as the
Steelers take on the Panthers at Heinz Field. The festival will be open along Art Rooney Avenue prior to the game. Friday August 29 don’t miss a free concert by The Clarks. On Saturday, August 30 Pitt takes on Bowling Green at noon followed by a free concert by Night Ranger Saturday evening. On Sunday, August 31 don’t miss a free concert by Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
Finishing off an already busy weekend, Monday, September 1 kicks off with the Steelers 5K Race and Walk and an afternoon full of activities including a free concert at 4:30pm by Bad Company.
If a trip to the city is not in your plans then there are plenty of other places to go and things to do. For the folks up on the Allegheny, the famous Cove will be a popular hang out on Sunday afternoon. Labor Day weekend is traditionally one of the last times of the season boaters gather at this beautiful anchorage near Mile Marker 46.4 on the Allegheny.
Also, for those of you that don’t put your boat away after Labor Day, there is still plenty to do. For an upcoming list of events, check the BoatPittsburgh.com
