REM/Gary's Crabs & Corn Party Worth the Trip
Tuesday, August 09, 2011

One of the best parts of boating in Western Pennsylvania is the wide variety of places to go and things to do on the rivers.  After seeing pictures year after year of boaters having a great time up at Rosston Eddy Marina on the Allegheny River (40.4MM), I finally decided we needed to get up there and see what all the fuss was about.  Gary’s Crabs and Corn Party held this past weekend, seemed like the perfect time to stop by and check it out.  Let's just say, the evening lived up to all of the hype.

Gary Cagle, one of the dockers at REM, has organized this event over the last few years.  “All you can eat” crab legs, corn on the cob, baked potato and numerous other sides were served to over 100 people.  The crab legs were better than you would find in most restaurants and the rest of the sides were simply delicious.  However, once dinner was over, the party was just getting started.

A live four piece band that sounded more like a seven piece band rocked the marina for the remainder of the evening.  Everyone had a great time sharing some drinks and good times with fellow boating friends or dancing to the tunes echoing out from the makeshift stage.  The already fantastic evening ended with a refershing late-night dip in the Allegheny River just off the marina docks.  The folks from REM like to call it a float - everyone gets in the water at the upriver end of the marina and then the current slowly takes the participants to the other end of the dock.

Next summer, be sure to check out the events at Rosston Eddy Marina.  Although they are five locks from the city, it is well worth the trip.  In case you need some more inspiration, visit the BoatPittsburgh.com Photo Gallery to see photos from the event.
