I had searched for a few hours a while back to see if there were any performance parts for a fuel injected 5.7. Its in a 96' boat and its pre-vortec. I was wondering if a throttle body spacer could be used or any kind of chips or performance throttle bodies. Thanks in advance
You could go down in pitch on your prop, or switch to a 4 blade prop rather than a 3 blade prop. I have a 3 blade 17 pitch prop for when I have a full boat and they want to tube or ski. It isn't too hard to change in the water. The trade off is that you loose top end.
The prop is the first thing to try.... I would try a stainless 4 blade one less pitch than what you are running now. You really shouldnt loose any top end with that. One other thing you can do is bring your timing advance in a few degress sooner, that is easy. All you need to do is put softer springs in the distributor. Everything else is pretty much either "snake oil" or expensive!
running a 5 blade right now. I have a 3 blade that i have from the previous boat. Its got power. Me and a passenger it leaps out of the water with the 5 blade on. I am just the type that always looks for ways to find a little bit more...
well, the rest is in the tuneup unless you spend $$. There are some nice deals on Stainless Marine headers for small blocks on Offshoeronly.com right now. You could try sending your ecm to Tyler Crocket or someone and get a little more out of it. I`ll warn ya tho.... once you start its hard to quit and if you arent careful you end up with 600 hp and maxed out credit cards! Have fun!
I think I gotta turn mine up a click to hang with you tunnel boys..... What did ya get now? I`ll bet its something to put a whoopin on that HTM!
Not sure if it will run with the HTM but will see after I get a baseline on props. But the Cougar 22 will run all summer without breaking parts(HE-He-he). PM me your e-mail address and will send a few pictures back.
I built a couple of small blocks for my other boats, they were all 350 mags. It is hard to make them get faster on a budget. The cheapest thing that helped my small block was a nose cone 99.00 It improved all around performance and increased top speed about 2 mph. The spacer did absolutely nothing noticable, carb change gained no top end but had more low end power. The only difference between a mag 270hp and a 260 was the intake manifold on the 270 was taller that is it. A good place to start is exhaust, thru-hull will help a little, then change out the manifolds to a performance exhaust. You have to help the engine breathe, what goes in must come out, an engine is basically an air pump. In any build, use good quality parts and use a trustworthy machine shop. I am building a 383 for my old boat that my friend owns now which had a mild 355 in it. It has a balanced assembly with forged crank, rods and pistons, 9.3-1 c.r. Just like my big block we are running a custom cam with the firing order changed (this helps with harmonics on the bottom end and frees up around 10-12hp). The motor has Dart heads with large valves, roller rockers, port matched and an eldelbrock performer rpm intake and a 750 sea-demon carb. You have to decide when you build if you want it to run really good and be dependable on pump gas or do you want to go more run av gas push it more to the edge. Personally, I would rather run on pump gas.
