    Default Lower Drive Unit Installation

We have a Bravo III outdrive and had to remove and send out the lower unit for replacement. Removal was simple enough and now the new drive is in and I'm getting ready to install it. From what I read, I should lube the seal make sure the splines line up and use locktight on the seven nuts. Does anybody know of any other steps or precautions that I need to consider?

First, check alignment of the coupler. Grease the splines that go into the coupler. Have you checked your gimball bearing? Have you checked all shift cable bellows, exhaust bellows and boots? How old is the boat? When was the last time the unit was serviced. If the bellows are more than three years old, and you already have the drive off, it would be a no brainer to replace the bellows, shift cable, and gimball bearing. Preventative maintenance is cheap insurance.
