    Default places to swim

Just moved here. Have a wave runner. How's the swimming around Pittsburgh? Where would you recommend going?

    Thanks for any help

Many places up the allegheny, right across from the Sears outlet is a nice place to swim, going up towards the dam it's on your port side.

About .5 miles below L&D #3 is a series of islands, above 12 mile island is a nice back-channel, where many people anchor and swim in the summer. during typical summer flow levels, there are a few nice beaches exposed for soft landings. Also, above the Schenley dam on the Allegheny is a nice swimming spot at the mouth of the Kiski river, clean cool water, it's even a bit acidic so it's a great place to clean below your waterline.

X2 on the the islands below L&D #3. Just remember that behind the island is a No Wake Zone at all times.

What about Brunot Island on the Ohio? I've driven by, but have never stopped to swim. Any good?

If you go a little further down river towards Neville Island, there is a smaller island where the back channel is great for swimming. Usually most boaters will run at no wake speed, but you get the occasional boater that will be pulling a skier or tuber through that channel.

Do you have to go through the lock?
