    Default Station Square

Can someone tell me the situation at station square pertaining to transiant docking. I here that they have leased most of the dock space and there is nothing left for weekenders or people whom would like to frequent the establishments.

I am not sure but I noticed that all of the spots seem to be taken, especially those on the end of the docks where any larger boats can tie up. I have also seen some larger boats tied to their dock barge but not sure if that requires special permission. Its a bummer we cannot go there for dinner any more... If you find anything out please let us know!

I just went on Friday night for dinner. They still have attendants on duty for transient docking. I tied up my boat right at the first slip by the gangway (it said reserved but she told me I could park there). It seemed as if there were about 5-10 spots open (it was a rainy night - I'm assuming most boats were not out on the water). Also, there was a large houseboat that pulled up to the barge - and the attendant said it was ok for them to dock there.

Talked to Forest City Properties, who leases the spaces at Station Square. Was told that all slips are rented to seasonal boaters, with the exception of 12 still remaining. These 12 slips are available for seasonal dockage, or on a first come first serve basis, at 5.00 per hour, and they are no longer accepting any reservations.
If I remember correctly, when the place was built, there was grant money involved from the Pa. Fish and Boat Commission, and some rules were set to allow for only 7 or 8 seasonal boaters, and the rest transient. Does anyone have any information on this?
I can't seem to remember if I read it in the Paper, or where this came from.

I searched online a bit, I remember articles in the paper but could not find anything. That is a good point as I am really surprised that they would sell all the slips like that when one of the main points of those docks, I would think, would be to create a destination for boaters and get them to visit the shops and restaurants at Station Square. It is a shame that it is now a long way from the days of dollar burger nights and Friday street jams.

Here is a link to their website. It says that only 10 out of 47 slips will be available for the season. Sounds like they must have changed that policy.

More to come. Eric from Pa Fish and Boat (Harrisburg) is checking weather there was any grant money and stipulations that went with it. He said he would get back to me in a day or two.

Why are you pushing this? The previous years they only leased limited spaces and the docks sat empty. They should have every right to lease any spaces they want. We already have limited amounts of slips in the PGH pool. Plus, your going by hear-say, I know for a fact there are spaces available...

By the way...here's an article from the Trib: http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pitt.../s_134762.html
It says nothing about any restrictions on the use of the docks

I think this problem should be resolved for many reasons. We enjoy going to the many restaurants and bars, and have been turned away, because there is no space. Large reserved signs are posted on slips, but no one is in them.
Out of town guests like going there, and can no longer make any reservations, as in the past.
When you use public money to build a nice marina like Station Square, the rules should be followed.

By the way i'm not against them doing what they want if they havn't been subsidized by my money. At least they can do responsable advertising. Excuse the spelling.
