    Default trailer title

Hey, I just bought my dad's boat. It is regerstered and titled in OH. The boat has a title, so getting that transfered and registered is not a problem, REV-336 I belive. The problem is the trailer. He dosn't have a title for the trailer, so how do I register it in PA?

    Thanks

I believe you will need a bill of sale.

if it has a serial # on it you will need a bill of sale , serial# , & weight slip.
without the serial # it gets complicated,
    sorry to hijac
i did the same also on a trailer from oh only didnt have serial # so more hoops to jump thru.
have been told there is a couple of places to get it done. but the 2 places i went couldnt do it.
different info each time plus they need the trailer without the boat and pictures of the trailer.
i gotta get it done while the boats in the slip. if you find a place that makes it easy let me know

Ohio trailers should have a certificate of origin, issued when new. If it is lost, I'm not sure what the procedure is. The best and knowledgable notary in our area is Altvaters Notary in Robinson Twpt. Ed has all the right answers.

I would think you need a duplicate title from Ohio first or the MSO if never titled yet

    mso? whats that
    i got a trailstar trailer.
there is a blank sticker no vin# or anything
    never titled
i am the third owner previous two were both from ohio
i guess thats the real reason it is without a vin that woulda costed a little more cash!
i got a few months to get it figured out anyway.
as long as i dont procrastinate AGAIN

    sorry for hijacking

    MSO

Same as certificate of origin from the manfacturer. When registered the state issues a title.

There has to be a VIN inorder to register. Kinda like buying a car with no numbers(can't)

WOnder if it was a homemade trailer and the previous owner never applied for a title.

    got ya. bout the mso.
i guess the real deal (what i heard from a dealer in oh with suntracker pontoons)
is that the trailer pieces are made overseas and shipped to the varios marinas
the marinas to avoid taxes put them together therefore they are made in the usa.
also if they dont sell the dam thing they dont have as much into it.
they have a blank vin sticker on them.
when sold in pa they would stamp the vin on the tag.
in ohio they dont need the vin or anything so by not assigning them one they avoid having to pay to certify the trailer.
i am pretty sure that it would save them at least a few bucks silly aint it.
yes an ohio sun tracker dealer informed me of this while i have been trying to get a dam plate on this thing.
where do i go from here only third owner (1st in pa)
i had 1 notary tell me to see two others. the one told me i needed a weight slip and just bring it over and they will get the papers in a few weeks.
the second said to goto the other.
i procrastinated after getting the weight slip right away.
and waited till the boat was on it to take in.
    this was last fall.
so once i get there they said no it needs to be empty they didnt remember what they told me.
well now it is and i want to handle before october 31
i guess i am draggin my feet cause i just dont wana deal with the run around.
i just want it to be legit.
it seems easy but cant find the right place
    any ideas would be appretiated.

    gotta go now
    headed to the bridgewater fireworks
have fun all and be safe

Try a AAA office. They were able to do the work on my trailer registered in MI and now in PA. MI only issues a "owners card" and no title, the card was good for life.

Update. The trailer was registered in OH, so all I needed was a registration card, and a bill of sale notorized. I also have to take it to a mechanic and have him verify and weigh the trailer. I have no idea how he is going to do that, but thats all I need.

    sbranscum,
to verify the weight all you need to do is goto a local landscape supply yard with certified scales (it must be empty no boat)
call ahead to be sure they are certified.
you drive on the scale drop the trailer and then drive off they weigh it then you reattatch and pull around and park.
they will give you a certified weight slip.
i got mine done on broadhead road in alequippa. i believe it was $12
if you need to know the exact address or number ask?
    happy to help
