Default That "Gunk" on the Bottom of My Boat

Hello All You Follow Helpful Boaters:
My wife and I dock on the Allegheny at Silkys and have the river "green stuff" on the bottom of the boat and outdrive. This is our first year docking on the river.
Could someone give us some advise on where to go to get out of the boat and clean it off? And also, what is the best method for getting that stuff off?

    Thanks for your help.

When the boat is in the water, you can usually use a sponge or old rag to get the scum line off of the boat. At the end of the season, you will need to acid wash the bottom of the boat to get it off. There are a few products to get it off such as Slimey Grimy, Attwood Hull Cleaner, Mary Kate's On-Off, and from a local company in Hampton called Boat Bottom Cleaner.

As far as places to clean the scum line during the summer, the island above 12 mile island right before L/D #3. If you don't want to lock thru, then in the back channel behind Neville Island as well as the small island before Neville island. I have also jumped in while on the hook around Sandcastle on the Mon.

When i pull the boat out i get a spray bottle from the dollar store and get some lysol toliet bowl cleaner with the blue lid. Mix that 50/50 with hydrogen peroxide and spry it on and it wipes right off.

Is the 50/50 mix okay for aluminum? I know Mary Kate says not to be used on aluminum.

we use a 60/40 mix as the Lysol is too thick and cost more than peroxide.

We also use a yard sprayer. Pump it up and spray it on.

    FYI

Best results are made from a DRY Hull. I spray it on fast, if foams and turns any brown or green spots white. Then Presure wash ( BIG BOY SPRAYER ) it off.

Lysol is a type of acid so I wouldnt say its Safe for aluminum but rinse it off fairly quickly and there are no problems. Been doing it for years.

You will still need to spot clean some area's but no where near the elbow grease of other products.

Thanks Gang! We are actually locking through for the first time today and will stop at 12 mile island to clean up a bit.
Have a great weekend on the water!
