Not trying to open a can of worms, or get a heated discussion started. I'm simply having trouble finding a place, including my handbook, of the actual laws associated with this.
My understanding is that I, as the operator, fall under the same rules as a car: .08 is illegal, etc. I also believe that it's illegal for the operator to have a drink open while underway, but when anchored, a few drinks is okay.
Regarding the passengers - as long as they're not driving, they're free to do as the wish (or what I allow!).
Just an FYI - I do not drink and boat. I may have a drink at anchor over an hour or two, so please do not think I'm putting anyone in danger. I'm just trying to understand all of the laws!
As an aside to this subject, I hate freakin jimmy buffet, kenny chesney is sorta ok, and I DO NOT DRINK!! At all. Is it still ok for me to be a boater?? LOL...
