Default boat launch - rochester - sewickley

I'm looking for a place to launch around sewickley or up north around the start of the beaver river. Any help is really appreciated.

There is one in Leetsdale, which is close to Sewickley, by the industrial park. I believe it is below the Dashields Dam. There is also one in Glenfield, which is in the pool between the Emsworth and Dashields dams.

There is a public launch at Monaca.
Go to the Rochester-Monaca bridge, then turn right and head toward the black railroad bridge. Launch is under the bridge.

Right behind the bowling alley. There is also one in Sewickly, but the ramp looks pretty hairy and parking looks to be in at a premium. Not sure of the street name. Glenfield is your best choice if you want to be above Dasheilds. Rochester if you want to be below.

i guess it all depends on if you wana burn the gas in the car or the boat?

my vote is for leetsdale,it is real close to sewickly it is a longer pool to run around in 2 locks from pittsburgh it is loacated 1 mile below the dashields dam.
its loacated in the leetsdale industrial park route 65
cross the new bridge make the first right at the stopsign. and a left at the t not anything special a little sandy but really close to sewickly.
i never had any issues there and there always seems to be a place to park.

if you want to put in across from the beaver i agree with JZelt and Quag its a little nicer there parking and ramp wise.

either way it is a cool pool!

the emsworth pool (glenfield exit route 65) is also good like cabelguy greg was saying the only downside, there is that forever long bumpy yellow brick road to get there
but once you endure that road it is a nice ramp, parking, and a port a john for the ladies. and 1 lock to pittsburgh

best of luck let us know how your trip went

I have also seen a ramp in sewickly. Looks like you better be pretty good with backing up though and also not sure of where you park. Glenfield is very easy, not busy. Can't speak for the shady characters, haven't had any issues myself. Careful though seems a little low right now and when I pulled off the trailer the other night I churned up the bottom of the river pretty good. No damage, but may want to watch power loading and unloading there right now.

We have launched several times at sewickly no shady characters but we all carry. We have had a little bit of trouble at the Southside ramp with morons who don't know how to launch and retrieve and handle their booze.

sewickly is ok but has a difficult cross current when loading and you park faaaaaar away by the car dealer at the top of the hill.
good news tho their is usually parking because of the long walk back to the boat

they put in a nice turn around at the ramp to make it easier to back to the water a few years ago
however 1 at a time if someone happends to be there you have no choice but to wait for the one launching to pull out! single ramp only.
i personly would goto leetsdale and go thru the lock before walkin up that hill lol.
or even endure that yellow brick road at glenfield.
but i travel from the downriver side of sewickly so that makes me biased
being in the boat quicker outweighs dashields lock with no construction in my eyes
a wet boat is a happy one

yes you are right sometimes there is shady characters at glenfield
fishing i guess, but never had any issues just a little uneasyness is all
in my eyes a better bet launching in that pool

    best of luck,
let us know how you do
smooth sailing to you for sure
lets sqeeze every bit of summer outa this year
