that sounds great,
i was hopeing for a success story with that!
cant wait!
my marina has cable,
however i am sure the wife will love that during the late nights on the hook.
did you wire it direct to an acc switch?
how about an antenna did you need one?
thanks again gsent
anyone have one of those coupons for it that i ignored last year?
Boat has an omni-directional amplified antenna already, and its wired so with the flick of a switch, you can select between satellite or over air tv.
Most boaters get between 15 and 19 channels in our area. The beaver river gets 4 to 6.
Off air works great. I have used it while boatgating and tailgating. The pictures are really good since they are not compressed. As far as analog cable goes at a marina, if they marina has Comcast, then the marina might not be able to offer service next summer. To keep up with technology and competition, Comcast is going all digital this winter. If the marina has Armstrong cable, then the analog will be there for a few more seasons.
Hi guys, I need some help. I am trying to find a good mechanic in the wexford/cranberry area that I can take my boat to. I want to have someone take a look at my engine and ourdrive and tell me if it needs any work. any help would be appreciated.
Hey there. Merry xmas to you to. I really just want someone to look at it, maybe tune it up a bit. The seals sealing the outdrive to the transom may need to be replaced. I was getting what I consider to much water in the engine compartment this past year. It is a Mercrusier 4 banger, 170 with a alpha 2 outdrive I belive. It is a 86', and it has never really been looked at by a mechanic. I guess thats a good thing, cause nothing has ever really been wrong with it. I just got the boat last summer.
sbranscum,
check your pm.
i guess its too late to test on the water.
did you winterize yet?
did you trailer or dock?
how much water are we talking about?
my first guess is bellows.
are you stored close?
if you raise the outdrive you can get under and look up at the bottom of the bellows.
although the colder it gets the more brittle the old ones get.
they need replaced every couple to 5 years
if your outdrive was stored alot with the outdrive raised it adds extra strain on them and shortens the lifespan of older ones
the down position is the relaxed position.
ill try n dig a little on your outdrive
ill post soon
sorry its not the same engine in part 1 and part 2
for some reason i couldn't find the right pair
this should give you an idea,
hope it helps
my alpha one gen 1 was around 500 for the bellows shiftcable etc...
i didnt price mine out for doit myself.
part one removal is only 15 min job.
get all the gaskets before you start.
I think you are right. Its so funny, I started looking underneath the outdrive with it raised all the way, and noticed one of the flexible tubes had cracks and holes in it. I took it off and realized it was the tube that the exhaust goes through. Now I know that is called the exhast bellows! HAHA. I am thinking that the shifting cable bellows is all cracked up and leaking water. I get quite a bit, especially while it was just sitting. Iam not sure I can take the outdrive all apart, although I am very handy and have always worked on my cars. Is the a "haynes"manual for the outdrives that tells you step by step how to do the maintenance? I really appreciate all your time and effort trying to help me. By the way, this boat has NEVER had any bellows replaced! It is a 86.
agreed FlapJaw,
that tube you posted is a heck of alot easier.
i heard nightmare stories and strange sealants to get the factory type on.
why fight it.
sbranscum,
the bellows job is not a hard one.
its just time and tools!
get the special screwdriver "long and bendable(hf)"watch a few installs
order the special adapter driver for the gimbal hinge pins as well as the gaskets etc..
also do some more searching before you start
youtube is also a good source
i am sure you will be ok, heck, you will at least know your boat better.
only thing i ask is that you post as your working on it.
it will help lots of fellow boaters, good or bad.
as well as give the rest of us a lil sumpthin to do this off season.
I have the mercruiser seloc from 92-00. First type of manual I have ever owned. As stated all over the net, they are specific and broad. They cover 5-6 engine types, but if I had to, I could probably figure out how to tear a motor apart. (didn't say I could put it back together... .
It was good nighttime reading and I did learn alot about maintaining/build of the drive.
For $40, I think it was worth the investment for a first time owner.
Went to an inboard, but can still help tear friends boats apart. The Outdrive is ~ 100 lbs and much easier to remove and install with 2 people. (had wife help just to get linkages lined up easier). I put it on the 6 bolts, then crawled under and had her hold the prop tight and slowly push on it until the shift links were lined.)
~400+ for new shift bellow and gimbal bellow installed if you look to have someone else do it for you.
agreed JZelt,
broad for sure,
main idea is there tho
$40 is cheap for the know how, even if it aint specific. it will certainly help.
thanx for the quote,
i think he'll be ok.
glad i was in the ballpark
