    Default Go Fast Fenders

What does everybody use for fenders on their go-fast? My formula has mint Imron paint and I want to keep it that way. I would love to have one set for the locks and one set for the docks - but i just don't have that much room.

Any thoughts. Was thinking of using fender covers and then take them off when i am going through the locks. Good idea? Bad idea????

Don't let your fenders hit the wall. I'm not being smart, but i would be more than willing to have my best mate show your best mate how we do it. Fenders are there for emergencies only, like wind storm, inexperienced lock operators, etc.

i feel more comfortable being up against the lock wall. I got away from the wall one day in the rain and had a heck of time keep the houseboat from going into the middle of the chamber.

Will those fender covers do any harm to the imron?

    Default Fenders

If you use the fleece ones, you will be ok. The problem is when you are in the lock, the fender contacts the wall, and turns. It covers the boat with dirt and grit from the lock wall. As you leave the chamber, you must clean the fender so you can store it.
The boat is still grimey and dirty, and usually you are not in a position to clean the boat right then and there, so you leave it on to dry.
There are companies out there that make really nice fleece covers. I will look around for you.

There is a company that makes a fender kit perfect for go-fasts with little or no room. They aren't rubber, but the are a blow-up material. Kit comes with a pump. Four fenders and pump in a bag. About the same size as a small igloo cooler. Google inflatable boat fenders and you'll find several suppliers. Doesn't help with the dirt issue, but they are really compact when deflated.

wow - those praktek fenders are nice - but not $150 each nice. I like the covers though. I might see if my canvas lady can make them cheaper using similar materials.

The name of the fenders I was referring to is Boat Bunkers or Stowaway Inflatable Fenders. They range in price from $79.95 to $139.95 for four and pump. The material seems to be soomth enough that it shouldn't damage the paint.
