    Default oil block off?

got a 97 Seadoo GTI today in new shape and want to keep it that way. Does anyone know where and about how much it cost to have the oil injection system blocked off so i can just pre mix the gas? My buddys quit a few years ago and locked up the motor and now i am always worried about it and woudl like to just pre mix it.

The block off kits are only about $15 on ebay(search for seadoo oil block plates). Not sure what a shop would charge you to do the conversion but if you check out www.pwctoday.com or http://greenhulk.net/forums/index.php you should find a step by step to do it yourself.

I HIGHLY recommend you don't eliminate the injection system. It's not a good idea. Injection systems failing is extremely rare.

Actually the age that he has it's more common for the system to fail, it's probably one of the top reasons for motors to seize too.

However, I would agree, if you had a 2002 or newer..... I would not eliminate.

All due respect Chuck, but I disagree. A properly maintained lube system isn't a very complex system that's prone to failure. My oldest auto lube equipped bike is 27 years old. It's only been rebuilt when I've wanted to rebuild it. Auto mix is better for performance and engine longevity. Trust me on this, I rebuild a LOT of 2 stroke engines. ;-)

I re-read what I just wrote. I'm sorry if I'm coming across as a "Mr. Know-It-all", that isn't my intention. I've been a motorcycle mechanic (and water craft) since 1998. Sometimes I get a passionate when I'm on the subject, and maybe that makes me sound a little pompous. I don't mean to be.

No biggie about you letting me know your opinion.

Give them a call down at Pgh Watercraft Performance, they are all very pro switching to a pre-mix system, this year I am doing to to both of mine.

At least with SeaDoos they believe it's the way to go anyhow--- I work nearby and stopped down and I quizzed them.

Think of it this way, if that pump goes it's over a grand to get them fixed.

I say get an oil block off device for the Sea Doo. It is always fun trying to premix oil and gas at the dock while being waked to death. Good luck getting the correct oil to gas ratio.

16 ounces to 5 gallons of gas, if I am not mistaken.

How accurate do you think the oil pumps are once you get junk clogged up in that old oil that sits in that oil reserve tank.

I realy think it's the way to go and I respect the folks down at PWP.

Oh, and the dock waking, that helps mix the fuel and oil, so when you think about it being in the Pgh pool actually helps you on PWCs
