    Default Anyone Fish?

I just joined the board and wanted to get something going in the fishing dept. Man I can't hardley wait to get the boat in the water. I figure get in a couple weeks of trout fishing, get boat in water and catch some real fish. You guys know what I mean, what a great area to be able to fish. I love spring and summer evenings fishing for catfish on the Mon. Anyhow, looks like this is going to be a great site when it takes off.

Thanks Mike230SE - hey we are always looking for more fishermen (and women) to help us out. If there is anything we can do or add to the site to make it more fisherman friendly, let us know. we are always looking for contributions from the guys/gals that make up a large portion of Western PA boaters.

    Default fishing/locking thru

I too am a new member to this forum, and I think it is a GREAT idea!
    Kudos to the founders.
I love to fish and am excited about getting out there soon.
I mainly fish the local lakes, but am looking forward to getting out on the rivers more this season.I also want to learn how to "lock thru." I've read the pamphlet by PFBC about it but would rather tag along with someone who has done it already. I don't want to look stupid by doing something wrong or inadvertantly not following standard procedures. The most convenient place for me to put in is at the confluence of the Yough and Mon in MsKeesport. I also want to check out the 18th st boat launch in the South Side.

    Default Locking thru...

I dock my boats at the McKeespoint Marina..... Just about every weekend after the 15th of April, we are at the marina... E-mail me and if you would like, myslef or someone from the marina can lock thru with you...I had someone lock thru with me the first few times, (decades ago)...and glad I did...

i love to fish. i usually go early sunday morning with my brother. my boat isn't the best for fishing but we have a good time. we hit the barges & pilings and usually pick up some bass. in the hot summer it really slows down to some big old catfish. i'm intrested in learning some tips because last year was the first year for me fishing the rivers. it's more relaxing than sportfishing.
Here lies the body of Mary Lee; died at the age of a hundred and three. For fifteen years she kept her virginity; not a bad record for this vicinity.

Question fishing in the rivers ain't easy

I consider myself a pretty good fisherman but I haven't had much luck fishing in the so called Pittsburgh pool. I am new to fishing the rivers, only started late last year. I have a depth finder, fish finder ect. and actually had done better last year without one. You do need a depth finder, the river changes very quickly and can be very deceiving at times. I have caught some fish. catfish, bass and a few white bass, but nothing to get to excited about. I am still learning and would like to hear from anyone who might have some experience fishing the the rivers. What is the best bait and what is the best set up for fishing in the river. I am getting a little frustrated because I know there are fish in the water and I feel like I just don't know what I am doing at times.

    Default fishing

Anyone have any hot spots for fishing.. I was told directly across the river from Alcosan was a good spot for smallmouth. I am going to try my luck in that area tonight.

Default 30" and a 40" muskie within 2 hours on the allgheny

had a great day July 5th. I have an 18' Bass Boat and not afraid to get it into trouble! Snuck into an area by the new bridge barge about 2' deep and caught several small bass and a 30" Muskie followed up by a 43"!! I have the pictures to prove it. Fishing on the rivers is hard. You really need to understand temps and current flow. Harmerville and north is where the good fishing is. Crankbaits are my favorite choice. Worms are to slow and boooooooring. I have never had any luck anywhere below Highland Park. The old Port Allegheny in Fox Chapel (showing my age) is great for bass but is very shallow and has many underwater obstacles. Looking forward to some great fall fishing. If you ever see some dummy and his 16yo son pushing a bass boat off of the rocks wave its me!!
