Who does your dyno work?, and let us know how it does. I bet pretty good for a small block with those heads....

    It didn't do to bad 350 pony's @ 5100 RPM and 370 torque @ 4500 RPM.

I'll post up the sheet so everyone can check it out. I just put it in yesterday, but need a couple of things for the custom captains call before its ready.

Those are big block numbers, with 100 less inches. Nice job! Hope to see it run soon. I put my engine in last night, still have a few "glitches" in my "engineering", but it should all work out hopefully in time for a test run this weekend. I still have no idea what prop I`m going to need so I`m going to have to borrow a few and see what works. Good luck with yours, seeya on the river!

Ya I had it in on the 30th, there where no docks in so i had to leave the truck sit on the ramp. I was pleased though I didn't get on it much because this is the last motor I'm putting in for a long time. This is engine # 5 in 3 years. Once it's all broke in I should see between 65-70mph solo. I'm not sure what prop I need yet, I have a 3 blade 19 pitch SS right now might have to move up to a 23. I had some cavitation on acceleration so time will tell.

I would like to try a 21p 4 blade, from what I understand a 4 blade helps lift the stern and that's what i need.

I was running around 70 with my 330 horse 454 with a 23 pitch 3 blade. I wouldnt run a 4 blade unless you want to pull skiers, there is too much drag pulling that extra blade around on a 20' boat. I tried a 24 pitch 4 blade and lost 3 mph, but it did plane faster and both had my rpms at 4600. The 4 blade was an inch smaller diameter. I take it you are running an alpha drive? The best thing is to borrow props from everyone until you find what your setup likes. I`ve also heard that too much stern lift on smaller boats makes them handle "loose". Unless your boat is really heavy a mirage prop and a lot of trim would be the first thing I would try. It worked for me on my 20' Checkmate. If you have an alpha drive I`m pretty sure none of our stuff will fit, we all run big diameter stuff.

alpha and standard bravo1 use the same props. i have a marage 27p if you want to try it. it worked on my 20ft with a 330hp 454. you will need to spin a lot of rmps to get a 23 to go 70mph gps.

Ya I do have an alpha drive, gen 1. I'm already over the hp limit for the drive so I don't know if I should just stay with a smaller prop (less stress on drive) and watch my rpms, rather than prop down the rpms. The boat is far from "loose" now considering it is a 1979 and light and fast wasn't in the original design I'm sure. I'm really not worried about getting every mph out of the boat it can, cause I rarely hold wide open unless I'm racing or heading for the lock after an event downtown

The Last engine I had in the boat ran about 5,300 rpms with a my 19 pitch, but looking for advice here because max hp on this engine is 5,100 and max torque is 4,600. I'm not sure where I should be propping for?

rmfriday, Thanks for the offer, I'll have to take you up on that when the sun comes out for more than a minute Where you from anyways?

that 23 pitch thing has me scratching my head too. The 70 mph was more like at 4800, but still dont work out right... with a 1.50 ratio. I have been wondering if it was bumped up a couple inches because the slip is really low. If you would like to try it you are more than welcome to, I guess it will clear as rmfriday says, and it is a standard shaft prop same as an alpha. I might be interested in trying that 27 myself! The first one I was going to run is a 30 4 blade mirage, but even tho the prop calculator says it will work I`m not sure if these big heads will have enough bottom end to pull it on plane. The cam guy says it will with the big stroke but I guess we have to try and see. As for the alpha living, easy on the holeshots and yank the stick back if you get air and I think it will be fine. Use good oil and change it every month or so too. I have some alpha parts if you tear one up too. I think the lower needs a bearing but the upper "seems" ok. When things get somewhat back to normal I`ll check it out and let you know. A cheap spare is a good thing!

i dock up in mon city, on the mon of corse. i take a few trips downtown on the boat ever summer. the 27p may be to much prop but it is worth a shot. as far as the alpha living goes, i was not very nice to mine and it held up really well. if it does blow a s.e.i. alpha replacement is like $1200 with a 3 year no questions asked warrenty.

moisturemissile, i dont think they make, made a 4 plade mirage. i think your thinking of a 4 bade bravo 1 prop. i dont know what your running but that is a lot of prop!

Your right again RM, I must have been having a "senior moment". I just borrowed a 26" 4 blade Spinelli from my buddy Phil. I have a 598" Dart headed Merlin II Chevy in a 20' Checkmate with a Bravo XZ and a 2" Imco shorty . I`ll let ya know if it works. If there are no bugs or snags I should be in the water Thursday for a test run. Hope to see you guys around this summer!

I tried the 26" prop and was on the rev chip (4900) at less than 1/2 throttle. Switched to a 30" bravo 4 blade and still gets right up on plane at 1/4 throttle and touches the rev chip right before it gets weird. I have a lttle more prop testing and maybe some bottom blueprinting but I`ll get it. Sorry, noone with a gps would ride with me so all we can do right now is guess. I`m guessin` 85ish. goona try a 5 blade hydromotive next. 30 or 31 pitch. whatever I can get my paws on.....

I just blew the bellows out of mine, I'll have it fixed for this weekend.

I didn't gps mine ethier but I smoked a friend of mine 06 Crownline 23' that felt good! I was turning like 5,400 to 5,600 rpm with 6 people on board upstream with the river at 12.4ft I would like to try a 23 4 blade or even a 3.

Do you plan on going down for skyblast?

I`ll have to check with the rest of our group and see about skyblast. I would bet we are going. I have a 23" 3 blade you can try, it worked really good on mine with the old power. I pm`ed you my cell #, call me if you want to try it. I had 5 people on mine at one point and it dont seem to like that over about 60 unless I put the tabs down some. What ruined my weekend is after working on figuring this new power out my buddy let me drive his 32' Fountain. mine kinda sucks now!
