Default Tips on buying a Wakesurfing board

Hi all - I went wakesurfing for the first time last weekend, and of course, now I have to buy a wakesurfing board because it was so much fun. Does anyone have any tips on what brand, kind, length, fin setup, etc? Any info would be appreciated!

The board I rode was 5' 6'' I believe. I'm not sure what the rule is in terms of length for height/weight, but i'm just getting started and would like the board to be fairly "universal" so friends can go etc. I'm assuming you'd have to get beyond beginner before this would make a huge difference.

    Thanks!

Looks good guys. Most all purpose boards are 5' - 5'6". Anything bigger is a waste of time. You can find some Hyperlite Broadcasts on ebay for a decent price, just make sure to check the sellers rating.

My favorite board of all time is the Hyperlite Swell 4'3". As you get better you will want a smaller board to make tricks easier (carves, olies, 360s).

Sounds like 5' or a little longer hyperlite would work for me. I'll look for some. Thanks guys!

Please be considerate of the wake you create while Wake Surfing. please stay away from in front of marinas. we all are held hostage by the persons boating by the marinas
Please be kind to your fellow boaters

I totally agree!! It should not be done anywhere near a marina. Please don't let a few bad eggs create a bad rap for people who wakesurf. Its another way to enjoy the great resource in our backyard. I was lucky enough to have a friend of mine (with a MasterCraft) to introduce me to this sport and I really enjoy it.
I know your pain... I have a cruiser and I also like my boat to not be crushed.

Why does every thread on this site turn into --- "please don't wake my marina"..?

Misscynohara - Thank you for taking an informational thread and making it useless. "Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

Mikey the size and type of board you get also can be dependent on the boat and size wake you ride. We have a 4'8" Broadcast for behind the Super Air Nautique. Its fast and maneuverable. I'm 5'11" 195 btw. The thinner skim type usually require less wake. I know a Grind Water Salysh is a great boat but didnt work the best behind our boat, but worked great behind a Wakesetter. Check ebay or wakeworld, there are deals to be had.

A useful forum dedicated to surfing...Many questions/reviews on different boards based on what you are trying to do/weight/etc.

Heck yeah that is Michael Bolton! You get an extra ten points if you name the movie quote in that post.

I have seen 8 people wakesurf on the Double Wake before, all at once. It was intense.

This is what I want to try - http://www.vimeo.com/6097217 - Anyone got a 60 ft boat that can go 10-12mph?

Hi Jonny - yes I did buy one yesterday - a Hyperlite Broadcast 4'9''.

I also did get to use it but not until late in the day yesterday when the sun finally came out. I thought all day yesterday was going to be a wash but did get a quick run in later. I liked it so far. It is of course a little harder to get used to since the one we went on was a 5'6'' but i can already tell I'm going to like it.

got that middle ballast tank fixed too so we're good to go! I'll call ya this week.

    Thanks for the help all...
