This year the Safety Zone fot the Fourth of July Fireworks will extend from the Fort Pitt Bridge to the Fort Duquesne Bridge to an imaginary line going from the submarine at the Carnegie Science Center straight across the Ohio River.  This will go into effect from 7:30pm on July 4th until the Fire Marshall opens the river shortly after the fireworks are over.

The Safety Zone for the Pirates Fireworks Nights at PNC Park begins at the Roberto Clemente (6th Street) Bridge to an imaginary line across the Allegheny River from the large concrete stairway below Mazeroski Way on the North Shore to the stainless steel Gateway Center 1 on the South Shore where the red KDKA Radio and TV signs are located (see map above).  This Safety Zone will be closed will be closed to all river traffic from 8:30 to 11:30 pm on Pirates Fireworks Nights.

By order of the U.S. Coast Guard, the Safety Zone for the Fourth of July Fireworks and all other fireworks shot from barges at the Pittsburgh Point -- including the Three Rivers Regatta -- is as follows:

Boats on the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers must stay behind imaginary lines extending from the on both rivers from the Pump House in Point State Park on the Mon and the restrooms in the park on the Allegheny to the abandoned bridge piers at the opposite sides of both rivers (see map above). Boats on the Ohio River must stay behind the West End Bridge.  In case of high winds, in order to maintain safety on the rivers, boats may be moved back as far as the Ft. Duquesne and Ft. Pitt Bridges. Boaters are asked to cooperate with the river enforcement officers and safety boats that will be patrolling the fireworks Safety Zones.
